Take These Tigers By Their Tails

This just in. Insider scoop from the Philippine distributor of heritage sneaker brand ASICS Tiger reveals two exciting sneaker drops at local retailers soon. While a release date has not yet been given, it is confirmed that the GEL-Lyte Speed “Japanese Garden” and the GEL-Lyte III “Made of Japan (Stripe)” will soon appear on boutique shelves and online stores.

AAC-AT-H614N-1313-0010255745-f-p-primaryThe GEL-Lyte Speed Japanese Garden has conservative yet distinct colors, a combination of beige, grey and orange for the upper and a two-tone white and gunmetal midsole. The shoe features a breathable mesh toe-box and quarter panel, while the tongue is of ASIC’s comfortable and iconic split construction.

The second shoe is the GEL-Lyte III “Made of Japan (Stripe)”, a snazzy striped number in red seersucker, paying tribute to the outfits of those who sit in Millionaire’s Row at the Kentucky Derby. Long hailed an occasion for the well-heeled in the world of horse racing to show off their sartorial whimsy, the Kentucky Derby is the first stop in the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Horse Racing. The shoe is whimsical, for sure, its red sockliner offsetting the stripes and off-white midsole and laces completing the look. I don’t quite get why it is part of the ASICS “Made of Japan” concept, but it’s a Japanese brand, so go figure.

The Japanese Gardens will be available at Commonwealth, Urban Athletics, Shoe Salon and Zalora, and will retail for PhP 5,800, while the stripey GEL-Lyte III may be found at Commonwealth, Sole Academy, SneakPeek, Zalora and Zeus.ph for PhP 6,200.
