Converse Previews Spring/Summer 2016 Collections

Eager to find out what Converse has in store for us this 2016?

Last January 20, the StreetsMNL Team got a rare glimpse into the near future from the iconic sneaker brand during their Spring/Summer 2016 media preview. The event was held at the Pineapple Lab photography studio and gallery in Makati, well-attended by Converse brand ambassadors, media peeps and sneakerheads, with social lubrication provided for by Monkey Bay Wines.

Unfortunately, we can’t talk about much of it because: SPOILERS.

As in movies, so, too, it is in style and fashion. We’ve been asked by Converse to keep some of what we want to share with you under wraps, at least until the time is right, and we have to respect that. We do have the go-ahead to share some of the things which will see release this month and next, so do keep reading, eh? We’ll also drop a clue or two on those sneaks that are still under embargo, because secrets are no fun unless you can dangle them in front of curious cats.

Here’s what we can tell you:

Chuck Taylor All Star
Chuck II’s are back in a big way, with some truly ace colorways and variants. What’s available now (and what all the guests received, thanks, Converse!) is the Chuck Taylor All Star II Mono. These come in two colors: Parchment and Black. We’ll post a closer look soon enough.

Aside from the Mono, three more variants of the Chuck II will be released through March, April and May, including a line that might remind you of how incredibly colorful the Eighties were. Florence Griffith-Joyner ring a bell?

Though more Chuck II’s are coming down the pipeline, Classic Chucks, meaning the ones without Nike’s Lunarlon liner, are still alive and kicking. Leading the way is the collaboration between Converse and iconoclast punk b(r)and, Sex Pistols. These sneaks are already in-store, so if you have any genuine punk friends, let them know these are retailing for PhP3,510.

Not for posers, please.

You’ll also find Converse playing with materials and textures on Classic Chucks from March until May, including a low-top version of something you saw last year and some classic patterns from our cannoli-loving friends across the pond.

Converse Cons
Camouflage promises to be massive in the street and skate-inspired Cons lineup for the season. Funny how a pattern designed to make you disappear into the environment also works to help you stand out. The camo treatment will make its way into both shoes and apparel, as will explorations into different material.

Like Chucks, the Cons One Star and One Star Pro get the Nike Lunarlon liner treatment for impact protection, comfort and better fit, plus lightweight Cons traction rubber, keeping the shoe grippy whether you’re carving on a deck or walking the streets.

Jack Purcell
Converse’s upscale Jack Purcell sneakers also get boosts from the Nike mothership. The new Jack Purcell Signature CVO has Zoom Air Technology in its outsole, while the Jack Purcell Remastered gets a Lunarlon insole. Premium materials are used, as befit the sub-brand. We can show you the Jack Purcell Remastered in Tumbled Leather, which just look gorgeous, but other variants will make use of fabrics that are lightweight and breathable, in time for the hot Philippines summer.

Remastered in Tumbled Leather, the shoe will be available in white, black and ink.

JP’s will also release something far more casual for lounging around the pool or at the country club. That will be revealed further on in the year.

While we’re sorry we can’t reveal much more, yet, trust us when we say that Converse Philippines is off to a great start for 2016, with a Spring/Summer lineup that promises to make a lot of people excited. We’ll keep you up-to-date with new products as soon as Converse gives us the green light, so do keep tuned.
