Back to the Future X Toyota Mirai

Following the much-watched, much-enjoyed Toyota Mirai teaser video reuniting Back to the Future stars Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, Toyota has finally released the full 5-minute video, dubbed “Fueled by the Future.” In the video, Fox and Lloyd (we can’t not think of them as Doc Brown and Marty McFly) are introduced to Toyota’s hydrogen fuel cell technology, a real life version of the trash-to-energy converting Mr. Fusion, in the form of Toyota’s Mirai hydrogen fuel cell vehicle .

The video demonstrates, in a nutshell, hydrogen’s potential to be sourced from almost anything, including solar, wind and, yes, trash. And, although the conversion isn’t as simple as tossing garbage into a car-mounted converter, the sentiment is similar.

“Fueled by the Future” debuted at a Back to the Future-themed Toyota event in Hollywood. October 21, 2015, the future date that Marty McFly and Doc Brown time travel to in Back to the Future, marks the official on-sale date of the Mirai in the United States.
